Reliefs
Relief Sculptures are sculptures that protrude off of a background as opposed to sculpture βin-the-round.β If the elements of the reliefs are almost as dimensional as they would be in-the-round, then it is high-relief. A relief sculpture in which the depth of the imagery is compressed is a low-relief, often called bas-relief. This is the case for most reliefs, including all those pictured below. Reliefs can be wall-hung or incorporated directly into architecture in a variety of ways.
